Important Restrictions & Updates

Current U.S. Visa Guidance and FIFA PASS Update

The U.S. Department of State now allows FIFA PASS ticket holders to request priority visa interview appointments before the 2026 World Cup. This does not waive the visa requirement itself, but certain eligible ticket holders from competing countries may qualify for a bond waiver.

B-1/B-2 Visitor Visas

  • Some Cabo Verde travelers may have to pay a bond of up to $15,000 USD to get a B-1/B-2 visa. If they qualify for FIFA PASS, they may not need to pay it. FIFA PASS ticket holders can still apply for a U.S. visa, and eligible World Cup ticket holders may also get faster appointments.
  • The consular officer will determine eligibility at the interview and explain whether a bond applies in your case.
  • Visas cannot be issued until any required bond is paid or otherwise resolved.
  • This requirement can apply whether the application is submitted in Cabo Verde or another country.

Immigrant Visas

  • Processing Paused: All immigrant visa issuances to Cabo Verde nationals are currently paused and no update has been provided on when this may be lifted
  • Nationals may still apply and attend interviews, but no immigrant visas will be issued during this pause.

Other Nonimmigrant Visas

  • Applicants for H-1B, F, M, or J visas must adjust their social media privacy settings to "public" to facilitate vetting procedures.
  • All nonimmigrant visa applicants should schedule interviews at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in their country of residence or nationality.
